Let’s imagine for a minute that we lived in a world where an ambitious and clever entrepreneur decided to open a new dental clinic. This clinic has all the right gear: chairs, x-ray machines, drills, lights, pokers, scrapers, suckers and all the other fun dental tools.

But this was no ordinary dental clinic. In order to maximise his client numbers, and therefore profits, he allows people to walk in off the street and attempt to do their own dental work by using his facilities and equipment. Yes, he has a couple of dentists on hand for those people who would rather pay for a professional to do it for them, but the large majority of people walk in, pay the smallest amount possible and then ’have a go’ at treating and fixing their own teeth in the hope they are doing something right.

Not knowing what to do, most people would probably hurt themselves and then just resort to doing what they know – a bit of flossing and some brushing – or not go back at all ever again. Not surprisingly, their dental hygiene would probably get worse, rather than better, very quickly.

Obviously, this kind of clinic would not only be ridiculous, but highly illegal and dangerous. Which is exactly why it amazes me that this exact scenario is not only legal, but the largely accepted norm in the fitness industry!

You will literally find a gym on every corner that will happily take anyone’s money for a basic membership and just let them attempt to exercise effectively and safely on their own. Is it any wonder we are one of the fattest and unhealthiest countries in the world?

Yes, there are some people who are knowledgeable, motivated and committed enough to perform safe and effective exercise and therefore achieve great results, but they are the very small minority.

The majority of people simply do not know how to exercise safely, effectively and efficiently enough to achieve the long-term health, fitness, fat-loss and wellness results they desire. Not that the gym owners really care about that though.

They’ve got your $15 per week membership going straight into their bank account, and they’d probably actually prefer it if you didn’t even turn up.

Folks, if you want safe, long-lasting and healthy fat-loss results you will most likely not be able to do it on your own. Find a qualified and experienced fitness professional to help you so that you won’t be wasting your time and money or endangering yourself.
