I consider nutrition and diet to be THE most important part of any health program if you want to lose fat, repair muscle, improve strength, boost your mood and energy, avoid mental health issues, prevent life-threatening diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease and to generally improve your overall sense of well-being.

Obviously, we all want to achieve these things, and yet we are one of the fattest and unhealthiest countries in the world. Despite their desires for a healthier slimmer body, most Australians continue to eat very unhealthy foods. So what’s the deal with our diet??

As far as I’m concerned, it all boils down to 2 reasons and 2 reasons only. If a person is not currently happy with their physical state and appearance it is because:

1) They are unaware that the foods they are eating are completely wrong for them, or

2) They know that the foods they are eating are wrong but they simply don’t care at that point in time.

It really does all come back to these 2 reasons. If you have struggled to achieve your health and fat loss goals over the years, it really is because you are frequently eating foods that you think are healthy for you but actually aren’t (i.e. you’re unaware), or you know that they are holding you back from achieving your goals but you simply don’t care because of the temporary pleasure that food will provide when you eat it.

Most people will fluctuate between these 2 reason all day every day which sadly means that their chances of achieving their desired health and fat loss goals are very slim (no pun intended).

So what’s the solution?

Education first and foremost. You need to discover exactly what foods you should and shouldn’t be eating based on your current physiology and the goals you’d like to achieve. Then, you need to have a stern talk to yourself as to why you so easily disregard your long term health goals in exchange for a bit of temporary taste-bud pleasure. Don’t sacrifice your long term goals for something so fleeting!
