Q: I have so many Christmas functions and parties coming up, how am I expected to lose weight?

A: Yep, we all know that the festive season is usually a time for over-indulgence and a lack of regular exercise.

The food, drink and unusual routines/events can and will throw a big spanner in your fat loss plan. So, firstly readjust your goals. If you usually put on 2-5kg over this period, don’t worry about losing any weight.

Instead, set yourself a hard firm goal that you will NOT put any weight on this festive season. If possible, have a loved one help you by supporting you or even joining you with this goal so that you can help each other stay on track.

Then, plan your festive activities. Book in your parties/events and then make sure your nutrition is top notch leading right up to these events so that you can enjoy some not-so-healthy-food and drink without feeling too guilty as you’ve been so good leading up to it.

Also, do your best to plan an intense resistance training or interval training session immediately before each of your social functions.

This will rev up your metabolism so that your body will burn off anything you eat, rather than turning it to fat and dumping it on your stomach, bum and thighs.

So there you have it, 3 great tips to help you avoid the Christmas bulge this year!
